Tummy Tuck - Abdominoplasty
Pregnancy and previous abdominal surgery can often cause women to develop excess abdominal skin, fat and stretched abdominal muscles. Weight loss can have a similar effect in both men and women. This can cause embarrassment and problems choosing clothes; especially underwear and swimwear. A tummy tuck can address these difficulties and where there is a large amount of excess fat, a tummy tuck can also be combined with liposculpture to enhance the overall result.

All surgery carried out in Belfast.
What does a tummy tuck involve?
A tummy tuck is performed in hospital under general anaesthetic. An incision is made in the lower abdomen that generally follows the bikini line so that scarring can be hidden with underwear. Excess skin and fat are carefully removed, the belly button is also repositioned and eventually a flatter and firmer abdomen is created.
How will I feel after the procedure?
You will be required to stay in hospital for 2 nights following your surgery. It is normal to experience a certain amount of pain and discomfort for a few weeks after surgery but pain killers should alleviate any symptoms. Following your tummy tuck you will be required to wear an abdominal support, day and night for the first few weeks and remain off work between 2 to 3 weeks. Detailed post-operative information and advice will be provided and review appointments will be scheduled at the Medi-Cosmetic Surgery clinic.
How long will it be before I feel back to normal?
Swelling and a variable amount of bruising will occur after surgery. Most of the bruising will have disappeared between 3 to 4 weeks. The swelling can take as long as 4 months to subside completely. The scars may be red and are often thick for some months after surgery. Sometimes puckering of the scar line can occur. Over time, the scars will fade in colour turning a silvery white. The process of scar maturation can take as long as 2 years to be completed.
