Nose Reshaping ~ Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty is one of the most common facial surgical procedures performed today. Many men and women are unhappy with the size or shape of their nose, or a particular feature of the nose that is hard to disguise can give cause for concern. All ages can benefit from this technique, although it is generally considered that greater visible results can be achieved in the under forties.

What does reshaping involve?
A Rhinoplasty can take one to two hours long to perform, depending on the extent of the correction. It is performed under general anaesthetic and patients are required to spend one night in hospital recovering. During the procedure the nasal bone and cartilage are refined to give an altered shape to the nose. Incisions are hidden within the nostril area and sewn with stitches that gradually dissolve away. Sometimes internal nasal splints are used, depending on the surgeon's preference and these, along with a protective splint worn on the bridge of the nose are removed a week later.
How will I feel after the procedure?
Most patients feel a certain amount of discomfort following surgery, and often complain of experiencing similar symptoms to a heavy cold for up to one week after surgery. Painkillers such as paracetamol will alleviate any pain or discomfort. Patients may look bruised around the eye area following nasal surgery and prefer to stay out of circulation for a week until the bruises have faded and the protective splint has been removed.
How long will it be before I will feel back to normal?
By the time the protective splint is removed the nose is beginning to take on its new shape and significant improvements will already be obvious. However, the nose shape will continue to improve day by day for another six weeks, but may take six to twelve months after surgery to achieve the final result.
What shape will my new nose be?
You and the surgeon will spend time together discussing this important step at your initial consultation. By the end of the consultation you should both have a clear understanding of what you are both aiming to achieve. Make sure you express yourself clearly regarding your personal likes and dislikes and listen carefully to his advice about what will and won't be possible and what will suit your face.
Where do I go from here?
If you are interested in having your nose reshaped or at least talking to an expert about the procedure, a consultation can be arranged for you to meet with a surgeon.
